Hokkaido Jingu Tongu

This shrine was built with materials from the Hokkaido Jingu Shrine (former Sapporo Shrine). The shrine has long been revered as “Tongu-san” by the local people, and serves as the departure point for the four palanquin carriages on the final day of the Sapporo Festival (June 14-16), which has been held since the Meiji era (1868-1912).
