Akenogaoka Park
A park full of nature created to commemorate the founding of the town of Makubetsu
The park was created when trees were planted to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the town of Makubetsu. The 250,000 square meter site, rich in nature, has a park golf course, ski slopes, and walking paths. Furthermore, in 1996, the symbolic tower “Pira Ri” was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the park. The tower's unique shape is based on the image of a cliff and the earth, and its 8-meter-high observation tower offers a panoramic view of the Hidaka Mountains and the mountains of Taisetsu. There is also a mountain bike course supervised by MAKUBETSU's own Olympic mountain bike racer, Kohei Yamamoto.
