Sake Bar Kamada
A Little Slice of Sake Heaven
At BAR Kamada in Sapporo’s Chuo Ward, traditional Japanese alcohol is the order of the day. Owned by the titular Kamada-san, this charming little watering hole stocks over 180 varieties of sake (nihonshu in Japanese), including limited edition and seasonal blends. There is also a vast selection of Hokkaido shochu (a distilled spirit made from potatoes, barley, or other vegetables) for which the staff will offer recommendations based on your taste preferences. Wine, beer, whisky, and liqueurs are also available. To accompany the booze, BAR Kamada serves traditional Hokkaido foods like zangi (deep-fried chicken), deep-fried burdock, and handmade cheeses from local dairy farms. Kamada-san also speaks very good English, so he can help answer any questions you have about the bar’s menu items.
