Tsubetsu Pass Observation Facility
A Spectacular Viewpoint with Majestic Sea of Clouds and 360-Degree Panorama
Located between Tsubetsu Town and Teshikaga Town on the Kussharo-Tsubetsu Line, Tsubetsu Pass stands at an elevation of 947 meters. On clear days, you can enjoy a panoramic view that stretches from Lake Kussharo below to the Sea of Okhotsk, the Shiretoko Mountain Range, Mount Oakan and Mount Meakan, and even the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range. Among the passes on the outer rim of the Kussharo Caldera, Tsubetsu Pass is the highest, making it a prime spot for viewing the sea of clouds.
From June to October, when the road is open, you might witness the breathtaking sight of the red, glowing sunrise emerging from the sea of white clouds covering Lake Kussharo, provided the conditions are right. The grand pageant of clouds and light is truly awe-inspiring.
