Kitakogane Jomon Archaeological Site
Step Back 7,000 Years to Prehistoric Hokkaido
This well-preserved archaeological site dates back to the early Jomon period (5,000 to 3,500 BCE) when hunter-gatherer communities lived in Hokkaido. See evidence of their houses and original artifacts found during the excavation, including everyday items and grave goods. Be sure to visit the remains of the mysterious white shell mounds that demonstrate the Jomon peoples’ coastal lifestyle, as well as likely, served as places of worship. Walk into reconstructed Jomon houses and try your hand at making prehistoric-style necklaces from soft stone.
