Hakodate Haikara-Gō

The “Hakodate High Color No.” is a limited-time-only chin-chin train that runs through the streets of Hakodate. The train is popular among tourists for its retro exterior and interior, which give the train an atmosphere of the Taisho period (the service is suspended in case of rain or other bad weather). In 1993, it was restored as a sightseeing train. It can be used not only for sightseeing in the city, but also for transportation within the city, just like a regular streetcar. The fare is paid inside the train by the conductor, which is rare nowadays. After paying the fare, you can take home a ticket stub with the “Haikara No.” design as a souvenir. Hakodate and Sapporo are the only cities in Hokkaido where visitors can ride streetcars!
