Ganso Sapporo Ramen Street
An irresistible retro atmosphere
The roots of Sapporo Ramen Street date back to 1951 (Showa 26) when it was originally the 'Koraku Ramen Meitengai' next to the Sapporo Toho Koraku movie theater in Minami 5-jo Nishi 3-chome. Initially, it was a shopping street with eight shops and restaurants, not just ramen shops. However, as the ramen shop Rairaiken thrived, the other shops gradually converted to ramen shops, eventually becoming entirely occupied by ramen shops.
In 1969 (Showa 44), the shopping street was demolished due to road expansion for the Sapporo Winter Olympics, but it was revived in its current location in 1971 (Showa 46).
Today, as 'Ganso Sapporo Ramen Street,' it has become a representative tourist attraction of Sapporo gourmet. With over 70 years of history, it not only preserves tradition but also features renowned shops that cater to modern ramen preferences.
The slightly retro and deep atmosphere of the alley evokes a sense of nostalgia, attracting many people from both Japan and abroad who want to taste unique ramen.
