Kiritappu Wetland (Hokkaido Heritage)
One of the largest wetlands in Japan, internationally recognized
Located in the central part of Hamanaka Town, Kiritappu Wetland spreads out surrounded by forests and the sea, facing the Pacific Ocean. It is designated under the Ramsar Convention and is an expansive wetland covering an area of approximately 3,168 hectares. From spring to autumn, it is adorned with colorful flowers, with early July being particularly recommended when the Ezo-kanzo flowers bloom all at once. At the Wetland Center, there are exhibits explaining the workings of the wetland and information to enjoy it, so be sure to stop by before starting your walk.
