Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden
Take a Romantic Trip
Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden is located on a 275-hectare sand dune, wedged on a slice of land between the Okhotsk Sea and Lake Tofutsu. Every year between June and August, over 200 varieties of wildflower burst into luscious bloom. Visitors that make it to the top of the sand dunes can see a beautiful view of nearby Mt. Shari, the Shiretoko Mountains, and Cape Notoro. Travelers that want to experience a more romantic trip should ride the train through the area between May and October. From JR Genseikaen Station, visitors can soak in the lovely summer scenery and watch as the gardens open up over the ocean. The Information Center near the garden rents out bicycles free of charge.
