Wakkarium’s Noshappu Aquarium

See Some Cute Seals at Japan’s Northernmost Aquarium

The aquarium is the northernmost aquarium in Japan, breeding and exhibiting about 1,500 items of about 100 species, mainly northern creatures. Together with the adjacent Wakkanai City Science Museum for Youth, it is affectionately known as “Wakkarimu.

In the migratory tank with a water capacity of 90 tons, you can see the phantom fish Itou swimming along with hokke, soi, flounder, and others. In summer, there is a show of adorable largha seals, and in winter, Humboldt penguins can be seen strolling through the museum.
