Motomachi Roman Catholic Church
The solemn atmosphere is heartwarming
This Motomachi Roman Catholic Church was founded in 1859 by the French missionary Father Mermet Cachon. The current Gothic-style building was completed in 1924. It houses an altar gifted by Pope Benedict XV as a consolation for a fire, making it a unique and precious item in Japan, being the only one of its kind sent by a Pope.
