Sapporo TV Tower
A landmark of Sapporo with 360-degree panoramic views
Standing at the east end of Odori Park, the 144-meter-high “Sapporo TV Tower” is a landmark tower loved by citizens and tourists alike. Construction began in 1956 as a television signal tower, and by the following year, an observation deck located approximately 90 meters above the ground was completed. From the deck, visitors can enjoy sweeping views—westward towards Mount Teine and Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, and eastward across the Toyohira River and Ishikari Plain. On clear days, the views stretch as far as the Ishikari Plain and the Sea of Japan.
Odori Park hosts various events throughout the year, including the Sapporo White Illumination and the Sapporo Snow Festival. The observation deck offers what can only be described as the best seat in the house to take in these festivities.
Also, located on the southeast side of the observation deck is the "Kowaso" (Thrill Window)—a single pane of glass extending from the floor to the ceiling. The downward view and outward tilt of the window provide a thrilling photo spot. Special plans, like reserving the observation deck for 30 minutes after hours, make it an ideal choice for surprises and special occasions.
Inside the tower, visitors will find souvenir shops and restaurants selling goods themed around the popular "TV Dad" mascot of the Sapporo TV Tower.
