Kondo Dyeing Factory
Founded in 1898, this long-established dyeing factory produces noren (traditional shop curtains) and large fishing flags for famous restaurants.
This is one of the few specialized dyeing factories in Japan that continues to uphold the traditional 'Hakebiki' hand-dyeing technique, where each brushstroke is applied by hand. Skilled artisans create each product, such as furoshiki (wrapping cloths) and tenugui (hand towels), by hand. Products featuring motifs of 'Hokkaido' and 'Asahikawa' are popular among those in the know as sophisticated souvenirs.
