Jozankei Onsen “Yukitouro”
Enjoy a Quiet Winter Stroll Down Snow Candle Way
Held from late Jan. to early Feb.
The solemn atmosphere surrounding the snow-covered Jozankei Shrine is made even more mystical by the light of 2,000 candles. The Yukitouro, or snow candle way, is a quiet winter event where visitors can stroll among the yellow orbs of light that line the paths of the shrine. If they wish, visitors can write down a message or prayer on one of the snow candles, light it, and carry it all the way to the shrine’s snow tower. If this walk is accomplished without the flame going out, it is said that their prayer will come true.
