Hakodate Illumination
Hakodate’s Romantic Corridor of Lights
Held from early Dec. to late Feb.
Hakodate’s yearly Illumination event gives visitors a special opportunity to see the city’s nostalgic avenues bathed in a romantic glow. The downtown area, lauded for its churches and well-maintained historical buildings, is transformed into a magical corridor of wintery lights. From Hachiman Slope, the view of the port and illuminated Mashu Maru Memorial Ship docked there is a lovely landscape. Best of all, Hachiman Slope is heated to prevent icy slips or accidents.
