OVERVIEW

This is a wide-ranging adventure tour across Hokkaido that deliberately distinguishes between its natural and urban areas, highlighting their contrasts to clarify their respective charms and enhance their value. As travelers journey through these regions, they gradually experience the blending of these boundaries, recognizing that they do not exist as isolated areas but as two interconnected facets with distinct roles.

The natural areas embody the fundamental culture of Hokkaido, shaped by its rich landscapes and industries, while the urban areas serve as hubs of modern life and essential city functions. Participants will gain firsthand insight into how production activities in the natural regions contribute to urban living, while economic activities, education, and public welfare initiatives in the cities create a cycle of reinvestment and regeneration in the rural areas. Through this journey, travelers will experience Hokkaido not as a division of land but as a dynamic ecosystem where nature and city life sustain and enrich one another.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Guidance for Understanding the Doto Area of Hokkaido

The tour begins at a special location where you can view four national parks: Akan Mashu National Park, Shiretoko National Park, Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, and Daisetsuzan National Park. From this vantage point, you will first get an overview of Hokkaido’s natural areas and gain a deeper understanding of the region’s landscapes.

DAY 2

Dive into Hokkaido's Great Outdoors

The Mashu Caldera, formed by a massive eruption around 7,000 years ago, offers a mystical view of Lake Mashu, often called the ‘Lake of the Gods.’ On clear days, you can also catch a glimpse of Mount Mashu and, in the distance, Mount Shari. On the way back, take a walk through the terrain from the Kussharo Caldera to the town of Teshikaga, immersing yourself in the local lifestyle of the rural area.

DAY 3

Gradation from Nature to Urban Areas

Travel from the natural areas to the urban center. During the bar hopping tour, explore unique and renowned establishments in the city center, from Tanukikoji to the Susukino area. A local guide will introduce you to Hokkaido’s food and alcohol culture, including craft beers from local breweries and regional sake. Enjoy the vibrant culture and lively atmosphere of the downtown area.

DAY 4

Discover the Culture of Sapporo, Hokkaido's Largest City

Visit AOAO, a facility that serves as a bridge between urban and natural areas, promoting environmental and nature education while fostering mutual understanding. Conclude your journey with a guided walk through the Sosei East area, known as ‘Sapporo’s downtown,’ where you can immerse yourself in local history and enjoy a luxurious lunch. At the lively Nijo Market, savor the freshest seafood.
