HOTEL ROYAL
Central Hokkaido area
A film adaptation of a novel by Kushiro-born author Shino Sakuragi, which won the prestigious Naoki Prize for literature. To preserve the world in the novel, the beginning of the film was shot in Hokkaido. The protagonist, Masayo (Haru), helps with the family hotel after failing the entrance exams for art school. One day, a couple commits suicide in one of the hotel's rooms and the hotel finds itself at the center of a media storm. And then Masayo's father Daikichi (Ken Yasuda) falls ill. Set at a love hotel overlooking the Kushiro wetland, the film explores human nature in various forms.

Historical Village of Hokkaido
Nestled amid the abundant nature of Nopporo Forest Park, the Historical Village of Hokkaido is an open-air museum featuring restorations and recreations of buildings from around Hokkaido that were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 52 historic buildings are divided into four areas—Downtown, Fishing Village, Farming Village, and Mountain Village—taking you on a journey through Hokkaido's history. It was used as the location for a flashback to the childhood of Miko Noshiro, an employee of HOTEL ROYAL.
