Nusamai Bridge

Nusamai Bridge

Crossing the Kushiro River near the mouth, this bridge is a symbolic landmark of Kushiro and is considered to be one of Hokkaido's top three bridges. Bronze statues representing each of the four seasons are placed along the handrails, Japan's first sculptures to be built on a bridge. The bridge offers an amazing view of Kushiro's famous sunset, considered one of the top three in the world. In the film, we see Masayo driving across the bridge, symbolizing a stirring of self-determination and spirit in her.
