Bread of Happiness (Shiawase no Pan)

This heartwarming live action film takes place in a small town called Tsukiura on the shores of Lake Toya, Hokkaido, and follows a couple who run a bakery and guesthouse called máni. Their customers come to máni with various states of mind, and each customer's life is touched by the couple. After enjoying warm bread baked by Nao Mizushima (Yo Oizumi), with a cup of coffee lovingly prepared by his wife Rie (Tomoyo Harada), every customer feels emotionally nourished. The film takes a gentle look at problems we face in various areas of our lives, from love to family.

Mt. Usu Eruption Memorial Park

Mt. Usu Eruption Memorial Park

Located to the west of the Toyako hot spring village, this park was developed to commemorate the eruption of Mt. Usu in 2000. The park appears in a scene in the film, where one of the characters, Kaori, sits at the edge of Lake Toya and talks. Sculptures can be found throughout the park. Along with various works by local artists, you'll find Light of the Moon by Igor Mitoraj, a mask-like depiction of a human face. Take a stroll around the sculptures and admire their harmony with the nature around them.
