The sea of Okushiri Island boasts one of the most transparent seas in Hokkaido, and the clear blue sea is often called be Okushiri Blue. In the sea, you can experience many marine activities such as SUP, kayaking, surfing, and fishing. Especially with SUP and kayaking, you can see the island from the sea from a different perspective than usual. You can catch many kinds of fish such as atka mackerel, soy, flounder and squid. Along the coastline of the island, you can enjoy the appearance of many strangely shaped rocks created by nature Including “Nabetsuru Rock”a Symbol of Okushiri. Okushiri Island Tsunami Museum
The Okushiri Island Tsunami Museum preserves the memory of the disaster that caused enormous damage to Okushiri Island due to the massive tsunami and fire caused by the Hokkaido Southwest Offshore Earthquake in July 1993, and preserves the lessons learned from that disaster for future generations. It is a facility that conveys the state of the disaster and recovery. It shows gratitude for the reconstruction support received from all over the country, photos at the time of the disaster, and documentary videos of the records of the disaster.
