Chitose City has New Chitose Airport, the air gateway to Hokkaido. Zero Carbon Park
Lake Shikotsu area was registered as a “Zero Carbon Park” on March 29, 2022, as it is one of the few “zero carbon areas” in the national park where hydroelectric power generation provides the majority of electricity.
Led by the Lake Shikotsu National Park Management Council, local communities, business operators, and tourists are working together to promote decarbonization, create sustainable tourist destinations, and raise awareness among national park users.
Shikotsu-Toya National Park Lake Shikotsu
Lake Shikotsu boasts one of the highest levels of transparency in Japan and its mysterious blue surface is called “Lake Shikotsu Blue.”
It is one of the best tourist areas in Chitose where you can enjoy not only the scenic lake scene surrounded by mountains of 1000m altitude but also the lakeside natural hot springs and the gourmet food. You can experience canoeing, diving, fishing, and bird watching in the magnificent natural landscape.
