OVERVIEW

Visitors will learn about the coexistence with horses, a part of Tokachi’s pioneering history, by experiencing “Banei Horse Racing,” one of Tokachi’s representative events, and the recently popular “Horse-drawn Bar. In addition, visitors will experience how Tokachi’s night-time economy is developing through nighttime activities such as a night river cruise where they can enjoy the starlit sky. At the same time, they will also enjoy what they can only experience in Tokachi, local gourmet food and hot springs.

DAY 1

Banei Horse Racing, Sweets Making Experience, Horse-drawn Carriage Bar Experience, etc.

Enjoy the historic local delicacy, “butadon” (pork bowl), which has become synonymous with Tokachi.

13:30-15:00 Horse race viewing
Watch the famous Tokachi horse race, which has been popular for over 70 years and is the result of a history of coexistence with horses. The powerful struggle of the horses will impress you!

15:30-17:00 Yanagizuki Sweetpia Garden (Sweets making experience + factory tour)
You will make popular sweets at “Ryugetsu”, a firm favorite in Hokkaido, which is famous for its “food”. This is a production experience where you can enjoy the unique sweetness of Tokachi. Of course, you can also purchase souvenirs at the store and sample the products!

17:30-19:00 Carriage Bar Experience
Operation starts at 18:00 and lasts for 50 minutes.
Retired Banei horses will pull a carriage around the area in front of Obihiro Station. You can learn about the connection between Banei horse racing and the local community as seen during the day. Inside the carriage, you can enjoy drinks and snacks.
19:00-20:00 Dinner on your own
You will have dinner at a food stall in the north at a restaurant of your choice. The Japanese “Izakaya” experience will also be part of the night time economy.

Shichiku Garden is a Japanese garden in Obihiro City, where you can enjoy seasonal views, especially during the green season, when it becomes a beautiful sightseeing spot with a lot of vigorous greenery. This is also a building with a deep history and a good old Japanese architecture.
In addition, you can enjoy lunch here in a relaxing atmosphere. The popular “Sakura Gozen” is a gorgeous Japanese bento featuring Tokachi loin tonkatsu, pumpkins, carrots, beans, and other vegetables from nearby farms.
