OVERVIEW

Imagine how people used to live in ancient times through a guided tour of Shibetsu Ruins and Po river which are 10,000 years old. You can feel the deep connection between local people and salmon. Then, you will enjoy some bird watching at Notsuke Peninsula, the largest sand spit in Japan. We will fully enjoy this treasure trove of wildlife, hoping to encounter some rare species.
On the last day, based on the nature and history we have explored, we will experience dairy farming at Takeshita Farm. We will think deeply about the relationship between nature, the land, and ourselves.

ITINERARY

DAY 1

Visit Shibetsu Town, the City of Salmon! Learn about the relationship of salmon and the ecosystem here!

Meet your guide at Nakashibetsu Airport and visit the Shibetsu Salmon Science Museum in Shibetsu Town. Shibetsu Town is famous for its salmon, and depending on the season, salmon can be seen returning to the river from the sea. Thanks to the salmon, the ecosystem and human activities in this area are also greatly related. Here, you will learn comprehensively about the nature, history, and culture of the Nekushiro region, which will serve as an interpreter for the 4-day/3-night Senkon Plateau tour.

DAY 2

Imagine life 10,000 years ago through walking the town!

Today we will take a little peek into the ancient life of Shibetsu Town with a guided tour! We will depart from the inn and meet our local guide at the meeting point in the town. From now on, the program will take you on a walking tour of “Shibetsu Marshlands” and “Shibetsu Ruins,” allowing you to experience firsthand the heritage sites that have been preserved in their natural and untouched state.
Visitors will be able to see the pristine natural environment, including plants that are unique to Hokkaido and closely related to Ainu culture, with the guide’s commentary. Visitors will enjoy a journey through time as they learn about the relationship between humans and salmon that has continued for 10,000 years.
After that, you will enjoy a canoe tour on pristine Po River in the afternoon. The Po River has a history of more than 10,000 years, and many ancient ruins lie along the river. We will go canoeing in the nature where you can feel such history. Please enjoy the nature from the same perspective as the people who lived 10,000 years ago.

DAY 3

Wildlife observation in Notsuke Peninsula, a treasure trove of wildlife

The Notsuke Peninsula is a unique place in Hokkaido, which is said to be a treasure trove of wildlife. Today we will start bird watching in the morning on the Notsuke Peninsula, and a guide who loves birds will be with us, so you are always welcome to ask questions or request for birds you would like to see!
In the evening, we will stay at Youroushi Onsen in Nakashibetsu Town and may see Blakiston’s fish owl at the climax of the bird watching n!

DAY 4

Enjoy delicious dairy products while interacting with locals!

What you have experienced the nature and history about this land sometime influenced people. Meet a family at Takeshita’s farm, where he has spent his life and proposed various ways to interact with the land. You can interact with them with dairy experience program and enjoy some delicious cheese and milk. Yoy may get some creative idea about the relationship of human beings and nature.
After the tour, we will send you back to Nakashibetsu Airport.
