HIGHTLIGHTS
  • Koboro geosite around “Koboro Station,” one of Hokkaido's top three unexplored regions. We will guide you to the Koboro Cave and Iwatani Kannon as highlights. The Koboro Cave, which has been used by humans since the end of the Jomon period, is said to have been formed by the eruption of an undersea volcano about 3 million years ago. Inside the cave, Iwaya Kannon (headless Kannon), which is said to have been made by Enku Shonin in the early Edo period, is enshrined.
  • We will walk in the restricted area “Old National Route 230,” which is a defect of the 2000 eruption of Mt. Usu, with special permission. You can overlook the beautiful scenery of Lake Toya and the largest crater that opened in the 2000 eruption, and you can also look down on the crater that was the source of the thermal mud flow.
  • You can see the contrast between Lake Toya, Mt. Usu, and other beautiful scenery created by volcanic eruptions and disaster ruins.
  • Hike the rare terrain (restricted area) of Mt. Usu that you can't usually enter.
  • Walk around the edge of the crater of the 2000 eruption of Mt. Usu.
  • Overlook Mt. Usu and Lake Toya from Kompira-yama Crater Observatory.
